Fabian has already carved out his place in the scene, inspired by years of intense study and nightlife immersion in London, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in music production and DJ’ing. Since then, he’s had tracks signed to respected labels like Josh Butler’s ORIGINS and an upcoming release on Limousine Dream’s Nug-Net compilation. Known for his unique sets, including spinning vinyl to share both fresh and classic tracks, Fabian has built a growing fanbase and big plans for the future. He’s definitely a name to remember. Let’s dive into his world and find out more about his journey, influences, and what’s next for him in the music game.

So, Fabian, tell me – how’d you first get into the DJ game? What sparked that passion for music?
Hey! I’d have to say it all started when I moved to London. I hadn’t really touched DJing while living back in Oslo; at the time, I was mostly producing music, which inspired me to move to London to study. Back home, clubbing for the music itself wasn’t that common among my friends. Experiencing dance floors in London opened my eyes to what this music has to offer. I started messing around with some decks my friends had, eventually buying my own to learn more. Digging for new music became a natural extension of DJing, and it quickly became a big source of inspiration for my production work. It’s now a huge part of my daily life and has greatly influenced my playing and production.

Living in London must’ve been wild! How did the city and its nightlife scene shape you as an artist?
I don’t think I’d have gotten into electronic music if it weren’t for London. The music scene back home is mostly pop and rap, so I rarely met anyone into this genre. My biggest influences were the people I met and the music I experienced at iconic venues like Fabric and Lion & Lamb. London’s nightlife scene played a massive role in shaping my sound and career.

What’s the vibe difference between playing in London and Oslo? Anything that stands out?
The biggest difference is definitely the crowd. The love and energy for electronic music in London are on another level because it’s been at the forefront of the scene for years. In Oslo, it’s still somewhat niche, though we have amazing DJs pushing the scene here. The scale is just different. The variety and quality of venues in London also stand out—you’re spoiled for choice. In Oslo, there are only a handful of places with decent sound systems. Shoutout to Jaeger Oslo, where I work and have met many like-minded people passionate about music.

You’ve had a couple of big signings already. How did it feel when Josh Butler picked up your tracks?
It was incredibly exciting. Josh was one of the producers I looked up to when I first discovered house music. I’ve released two tracks with ORIGINS—the first was a remix for TIMMY P, which I won in a contest Josh hosted. That contest was a great way to connect with him and share more of my music, and it really boosted my motivation.

You’re digging deep into vinyl now – what’s the deal with that? Why vinyl over digital?
Vinyl became a big part of my workflow after spending countless hours digging and discovering tracks that aren’t available digitally. It’s a way to unearth gems from the 2000s or ’90s that would otherwise be buried. While my vinyl collection isn’t as big as my digital library, I feel like I know my records better. Playing vinyl is also more challenging and requires a different approach than using CDJs, which keeps me engaged and excited.

Walk us through a typical day for you, balancing DJ gigs, producing, and working with youth – how do you keep it all going?
I try to focus on music during my free time, though I’m not always as motivated as I’d like. My weekly schedule works well—I have two weekdays off from my “day job,” and I work at a nightclub on weekends. On my days off, I catch up on production and other music projects, while weekends inspire me at the club.

Who are your biggest musical influences these days? Anyone you’re dying to collab with?
Way too many to count! My sound is always evolving, and so are my influences. Recently, I’ve been drawn to minimal and trancy sounds, with mixes from Slapfunk or MUDD show series being major sources of inspiration. Artists like Liquid Earth, Reflex Blue, Gene On Earth, and Alexander Skancke are at the top of my list.

Do you have any current favourite records in your collection or is there a record that you would love to get?

My current favourites are changing from week to week, and the records I love the most tend to be way to expensive on Discogs haha, but while writing this I’ve been listening a lot to Bring Back The Love (retro mix) on TOMA Records, a track from ’93 that I first heard in Danilo Plessow’s Mixmag set. What a vocal! There has never been a copy up for sale on Discogs, so the YouTube version is all I’ve got to deal with for now. The Headspin EP released earlier this year by DAV on Sensei Records is also really good. I have a couple of records from Kalahari Oyster Cult which I really like at the moment too, some great releases on that label.

What’s been the craziest or most memorable gig you’ve played so far?

Tough one! But the first one that comes to mind has to be the unexpected gig at a snowboard movie premiere event in Oslo back in 2022. As I carried my USB around in my pocket, I spotted some empty decks on the first floor of the venue, while another DJ was playing upstairs where the main event was. I went over to the bar to ask if I could play some music on the decks, as the dance floor was empty at the time. Without any headphones and with a couple of friends, we quickly turned it into an almost full dance floor up until closing, and it was probably one of the most fun gigs I’ve ever played. I’ve heard rumours that the princess of Norway was in that crowd that night, dancing with her husband, which makes this story even more crazy!

I heard you’re considering moving to Berlin or maybe back to London – what’s pulling you toward these cities?
I miss the inspiration I felt living in London. Being surrounded by the music I love and connecting with people in the industry is incredibly motivating. Cities like Berlin and London, where electronic music is deeply ingrained in the culture, offer more opportunities to play, grow, and meet the right people.

And looking ahead, what’s the dream for you, man? Where do you see yourself in the next few years?
I hope to establish a consistent release schedule—I have an upcoming track on the Nug-Net compilation by Gene On Earth, and I’m planning a self-release on Bandcamp featuring some of my psy-trance/minimal tracks. Finishing tracks is my top priority right now. Beyond that, I want to keep improving as a DJ, playing more clubs, and hopefully landing an international gig to test my music on different crowds.
